Christmas cards and carols delivered with love and joy

THREE box-loads of letters and personalised Christmas cards were delivered to local nursing homes by the pupils of Citywest & Saggart Community National School.

In a special festive outreach project, the pupils each received the first name of a resident, to whom they penned a Christmas letter or card for.

This is the second year the pupils have connected with the nursing homes in their local area, TLC Citywest, Millbrook Manor in Saggart village and Lisheen Nursing Home in Rathcoole.

Last Friday, pupils in Ms O’Donovan’s fourth class delivered a box full of greetings to their neighbours in the TLC nursing home and staged a five-song concert in the courtyard.

Many of the residents listened from inside the building, waving out to the pupils and clapping as they sang Christmas carols and numbers from The Greatest Showman.

Lorraine Byrne is a member of the school’s Parents’ Association.

She said: “The kids loved writing the letters and cards . . . and it’s nice for those living in the nursing home to know there’s somebody else in the community thinking of them, especially during lockdown.

“It’s something really simple that has a special impact on the kids and residents.”

She added: “We have to say a big ‘thank you’ to school principal Mike Byrne and all the teachers on behalf of the Parents’ Association.

“Thanks to the kids as well, they made this special, they did all of the work.”
