Clampers and car park signs slammed over poor visibility
By Laura Lyne
FOLLOWING a call by a disgruntled driver reminding shoppers to be wary of clamping in the Cheeverstown Park+Ride in The Echo two weeks ago, another local driver has blasted the car park as badly signposted and confusing for drivers.
The local resident, who uses the car park on a regular basis, found her car clamped earlier this year after mistaking the number of her parking bay due to poor visibility due to the weather.
She told The Echo: “I am so glad that someone picked up on this issue. I am a resident of Lucan, originally from the Cheeverstown area of Tallaght. I regularly use this Luas stop.
“Earlier this year I parked my car at this park and ride and paid my €2 fee for maximum parking.
“Unfortunately that day was raining and dull and I read the bay number wrong and entered the number 71 instead of the correct bay 77, an easy mistake to make with the digits and the fact that I had left my glasses in the car didn’t help either.
“I went into town and when I returned about five hours later my car had been clamped. I was furious, I happened to meet the person who was parked in the actual bay 71 who was leaving the car park and took her ticket to prove my mistake.
“When the clamper arrived he agreed with me that the facility was a joke and not well signposted and said it should be pay and display.
“He told me to appeal and that I would have no trouble getting my €80 back. I did appeal and whilst they sympathised with my situation I did not get a refund.”
The concerned driver hopes that her story can help others to avoid being clamped in the car park and the surrounding Cheeverstown area.
She said: “I would hope that maybe something can be down about this to make people aware of the level of clamping there. I witnessed several cars clamped there on many occasions.
“People who travel up from other counties would not be aware that you need to pay for parking and just jump on the Luas.”
The Echo contacted the NCPS for comment about the concerns of customers, but a response was not received in time for print.
