Clinical Ballyboden dispatch Commercials

A LATE first half surge by Ballyboden St Enda’s went a long way to seeing them beat Commercials 3-18 to 2-10 and book the place in the semi finals of the Junior A Hurling Championship where they will meet St Maur’s.

Goals by Emmet Carroll, Des O’Sullivan and Daniel Nugent laid the groundwork for the Firhouse Road side who struck 2-6 without replay in the closing minutes of the first half.

They had made the early running, going 1-2 up before Ferdia Egan replied with a point that, itself, signalled the start of a Commercials comeback.

Reece Butler produced a a superb goal after finishing off good work by Gearoid Keogh and Conan McCarthy with a brilliant run and strike to the net to help them overtake into a two-point advantage.

But that was to be as good as it would get for the Rathcoole side as Boden hit the boosters towards halftime, Carroll taking his tally to 1-3.

And try as they might in the second half, Commercials were unable to make much of an in-road into Boden’s advantage.

Matt O’Sullivan was excellent at wing back for the eventual winners while goalkeeper Ronan Sharkey pulled off a great penalty save only to see Eoin Wilson plant the loose ball home.

It was to amount to little more than a consolation score for Commercials who will be disappointed at the result especially given their impressive performances against the likes of Faughs, Naomh Mearnog and St Vincent’s in previous games.

Injuries did rob them of six senior players, but, take nothing away from this clinical Boden team, who will be very encouraged with their ability to execute when it matters- something they will certainly need when they take on Maur’s.
