Match of the Week: Clondalkin continue good start following Tallaght Utd victory

CLONDALKIN Celtic made it three wins from four starts since dropping down to Division 3B in the UCFL, when they put two past Tallaght United without reply in Ballymount Park on Saturday morning reports John Mooney.

This was a good game with plenty of chances but, unfortunately, for United their efforts went the wrong side of the post.

Its been a really good few weeks for the Celts after they dropped down, and have started to put a few results together, three wins in four games.

The home side started brightly enough with both John kelly and Brian Robson causing problems down both flanks, with Kelly, in the early moments, producing a perfect cross that Robson just failed to connect with.

However, for all their good work it was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 15 minutes as Joe Gogan controlled a long ball down field, turned a defender, and slipped the ball into Stephen Moles for a simple tap-in.

United almost got back on level terms five minutes later as Kelly played a cross-field pass to Robson, he centred and when Toluwalage Adeenyi connected with it James Morgan who was on the line to stop it going in.

Kelly then saw his free kick go straight into the arms of keeper Will Forte, while, at the other end, Moles tried to chip Rian Wade who read his intentions and dealt with his effort.

On the stroke of half-time Clondalkin got what proved to be the insurance goal as Wayne Kileen picked a defender’s pocket and bore down on goal, but Wade took him down and from the penalty spot Callum Forte slotted home.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the home side to come back in the second half, as they were missing a few regulars from the starting eleven and it proved to be a problem.

They could make their way down field but whenever the ball was centred there was no one there to put it away, and, really, they were left with coming up with long-range efforts that never tested Forte.

Clondalkin were happy enough with their lot and soon after the break introduced their more experienced substitutes, and they managed the game that bit better to see it through to the final whistle.
