Comedy stars head to Palmerstown

“IT’S BUSY times,” sums up Dessie Hickey, the Palmerstown-based The Dice Players Performing Arts Studio.

The studio has a busy festive season ahead, with a Christmas Choir Singing Group course led by Elise Lawson taking place every Friday starting from October 30 until December 4.

These weekly classes run between 7pm and 9pm in Pobalscoil Iosolde (Palmerstown Community School) for a fee of 90 euro.

This will also involve productions telling Christmas stories directed by one of the Dice Players’ original members, Maebh Kerrigan.

Group members will do a mini tour around Chapelizod, Ballyfermot, and  Palmerstown, with a final performance taking place as part of a free showcase in the Palmerstown Parish Hall on December 5.

As well as that, Dice Players are hosting an intensive acting workshop with David Merriman in the Parish Hall on November 7 between 12pm and 4pm for a fee of 65 euro.

If that is not enough, they will also be hosting a One-Day Comedy Workshop on November 14, with iconic comedians Aideen McQueen, Willa White, Arthur Matthews, and Katherine Lynch all speaking on the day.

10am to 12pm will be for joke telling, skits and stage persona with Aideen McQueen, followed by lunch at the Coachhouse Cafe between 12pm and 1:50pm.

Comedy Improv with Willa White takes place between 2pm and 4pm, followed by another break between 4pm and 4:30pm.

The day will conclude with Arthur Matthews in Conversation with Katherine Lynch, followed by a Q & A between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.

The Full Day Experience costs 140 euro, while Katherine and Arthur’s section only costs 45 euro.

Reflecting on all of this, Dessie hopes that attendees’ biggest takeaway is “I enjoyed something, I learned something, it was a great day spent.”

Enrolment is advertised through the WhatsApp group, currently boasting 179 members as of writing, posters created by Clegis De Assis, and word of mouth.

Dessie would like to thank all members of the Dice Players, as well as Elise Lawson, Maebh Kerrigan, David Merriman, Aideen McQueen, Willa White, Arthur Matthews, and Katherine Lynch.

He also acknowledges Coachhouse Cafe, Pobalscoil Iosolde, Palmerstown Parish Hall, The Echo, and all of the teachers who have supported the Dice Players.
