Commencement notice for Penneys fitout at The Square

A COMMENCEMENT notice has been supplied to South Dublin County Council for material alterations and fitout for Penneys in The Square Shopping Centre.

After almost two decades of speculation, Penneys announced that it would be opening a new store on Level One of the shopping centre in the former Debenhams unit.

With some 43,000sq.ft of retail space, the substantial refit is now set to commence.

The commencement notice with compliance documentation has been provided to the planning authority for proposed material alterations and fitout of Unit 116 for Primark – which trades as Penneys in Ireland.

In the documentation, the builder is listed as Paul Bruton, the building company is down as Bennett Construction Ltd, and Gareth O’Callaghan is named as the designer.

Prior to the commencement of work, a valid commencement notice or “seven day notice” must be submitted to the Building Control Section of the planning department giving notice of the intention to start work.

The arrival of Penneys to The Square will mark the retailer’s 37th store in Ireland and provide a major boost to the local economy, with some 300 jobs set to be created.

It was previously reported that Penneys is scheduled to open its Tallaght store in 2022.

This commencement notice follows on from The Square Management Limited obtaining permission to make changes to the unit.
