Community groups recognised for carrying out valuable work in area

A NUMBER of community groups and organisations are starting the New Year on a more positive financial footing, after 13 groups shared €17,000 in prize money under the Community Endeavour Awards.

Led by South Dublin County Council, the awards aim to acknowledge, promote and recognise the work of community and voluntary organisations, trying in “some small way” to recognise those who carry out valuable work in the area – with all community organisations that have made a difference in their community and a beneficial effect on residents eligible to enter.

Some 140 entries were received from a diverse and vibrant number of groups based in South Dublin County, representatives of which were invited to an awards ceremony in the Red Cow Moran’s Hotel in December.

On the night, after an independent judging panel assessed each entry, awards were presented under 14 categories, with Dominic’s Community Centre winning the overall Community Endeavour Award – and the top cash prize of €3,000.

Speaking at the event, County Mayor Sarah Holland said: “Tonight is about recognising your endeavour and rewarding it but it is also a night where, as a council, we give thanks to you for your work over the past twelve months.”
