Costings being finalised for People’s Park plans

COSTINGS are being finalised by Dublin City Council in relation to the proposed People’s Park in Ballyfermot.

The park is to be located on green space beside the Community Civic Centre, which will provide infrastructure for small community gatherings, an open pergola structure and a space for markets.

The aim of the park is to provide a place for residents to engage with nature, planting, movement, play, music and storytelling.

The city council say there has been “good feedback” in the community for the park and that a selection panel has met to discuss the installation of a sculpture in the amenity.

Applications for a sculpture were reduced to four possible candidates.

Discussions are also taking place with the Civic Centre regarding combined monitoring of CCTV from the building.

Cllr Daithí Doolan (SF) said: “Residents are delighted that work is progressing on developing a people’s park here in the centre of Ballyfermot. The proposed sculpture will be a central part of the work. A key to the success will be the ongoing consultation with Ballyfermot residents.

“This park is a great opportunity to open up Ballyfermot to locals and visitors. This park can be a recreational facility for families and older residents. A real coming together for the whole community.”
