The move was announced on March 21 at a council meeting and follows a recruitment process conducted by the Public Appointments Service.

Mr Ward, the former Housing Director at SDCC, was appointed Interim Chief Executive in May 2023, after previous chief executive Daniel McLoughlin retired from the role he held at the local authority for 10 years.

Commenting on his appointment Mr Ward said: “I am honoured and privileged to be formally appointed as Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council.

“I look forward to continuing to work with our elected members and all of our staff to serve the citizens, communities and businesses of South Dublin and to deliver on our key priorities and ambitious plans for a county that I am proud to be from.”

Before taking up the permanent role of chief executive, Colm previously served as Director of Housing, Community and Social Development and as Head of Enterprise among various other roles during his 27 years working in South Dublin County Council.

South Dublin Chamber welcomed the appointment.
