Council give two-storey extension at Lucan school the green light

PLANS for a new two storey extension at Divine Mercy National School in Lucan, have been given the green light from South Dublin County Council.

Divine Mercy Senior and Junior National School in Balgaddy, submitted a planning application in August for the development.

Proposed works at Divine Mercy JNS consist of the demolition of a courtyard block of eight classroom, hall and ancillary accommodation with the construction of a new two storey primary school extension consisting of 15 classrooms.

Plans for Divine Mercy JNS also include a junior general purpose room, library, staff room, and internal works to the existing single storey school including a new classroom.

As part of the works there will be a new set down area at Balgaddy Road with repositioning of the pedestrian and vehicular entrances, the provision of 44 car parking spaces, bicycle stands, three junior play areas and a respositioning of the existing pedestrian crossing to Balgaddy Road.

Proposed works to the SNS consist of the construction of a new two storey extension for eight classrooms, a senior general purpose room, a library, tuition rooms and minor internal works to the existing senior senior school.

External works include a temporary two storey classroom prefab unit, the removal of an existing bicycle lane, eight additional car parking spaces, four senior play areas, new bicycle stands and all associated ancillary works.  On completion of the works all temporary classroom prefabs are scheduled to be removed from the grounds of the senior and junior national.

South Dublin County Council granted permission for the development on January 26.
