SOUTH Dublin County Council has a target of delivering 1,133 affordable housing units for the period 2022-2026.

The council has been advised by the Department of Housing for the delivery of affordable housing units for this period, commencing with 60 units in 2022.

At the council meeting on Monday, Cllr Charlie O’Connor (FF) asked for detailed plans on the “clear need for affordable housing in the county.”

In response, SDCC said they are currently working on 50 affordable purchase homes to be delivered in Kilcarbery by 2024 through the development agreement with the private developer.

There is also 372 affordable purchase homes to be delivered between 2024 to 2026 in Killinarden, up to 133 Part 8 cost rental apartments at Belgard Square North, 60 affordable purchase homes in the Canal Extension development area of Clonburris SDZ, and up to 200 affordable purchase and cost rental homes in the Kishogue development area of Clonburris SDZ.

The balance of affordable home targets are envisaged to come from further development of mixed tenure developments on council-owned land within Clonburris SDZ.
