Davis inters into Championship Final

THOMAS Davis inter-mediate hurlers booked their place in the championship final on Saturday evening after a hard-fought 0-22 to 2-14 victory over St Peregrine's at Kiltipper Road.

The homeside came from two goals down in the opening half as they staged a battling second half performance to book a berth in the final.

Davis made life difficult for themselves in this encounter with the Blakestown oufit making all of the early running with a couple of well worked points.

Peregrine's broke through for two goals in the opening half and this was what separated the teams at the interval.

Two points apiece from Cian Murphy and Davy Byrne settled the hosts in the first half while the influential Kevin Ward kept the scoreboard ticking over with a couple of pointed frees.

It was 0-9 to 2-9 in favour of Peregrine’s at the interval, but the Davis boys gradually clawed their way back with a couple of scores.

They got on top around midfield in the second half while their forwards did not give away as much possession. Peregrine’s found it more difficult to get points as a result.

The introduction of Conor Molloy, John Riordan and Sean Blanchfield proved vital for Davis as they started to gain possession and more importantly convert this into scores.

Points from play through Daire Kerr, Eanna O’Toole and Sean Reilly edged them in front while Tom O’Dwyer and Sean Blanchfield found the range in what was a nailbiting conclusion to the match.

Dublin minor hurling captain Davy Keogh along with Ryan Deegan played crucial roles in Davis’ win as Peregrine’s made them fight all the way.

Davis will now be playing Senior B Hurling Championship and will contest the  Intermediate Championship for the first time since 2011.
