Davis U16 hurlers complete double

THERE were scenes of jubilation in Blakestown Road on Saturday after Thomas Davis Under 16 hurlers lifted the 'B' Championship crown for the very first time.

The Kiltipper side produced a superb show to topple Clontarf 3-8 to 1-4 and complete the double having won the Division Three title already this season.

The win was made all the more remarkable as Davis beat a side that competes in Division Two.

They laid the foundation for their win in the opening half when goals from Fionn Murray and Paul Kennedy handed them a 2-5 to 0-3 half time cushion.

Davis enjoyed good periods of possession in the opening half and were turning this into scores.

Adam Waddick chipped in with two points in the opening stages while full back Derek Hogan landed two 65s to give his side a big lift.

Davis grew in confidence in the second half and a third goal from David Horan put the game well out of Clontarf’s reach. Horan also contributed two further points as the Tallaght boys went on to record a superb win.

The Davis defence played well in this contest as they only conceded 1-1 from play with Luca Gigilone, Sean Byrne, Craig Davis and Aaron Murphy Taylor putting in big shows.

Sam Stewart in attack was another Davis player who put in a big show while the Clontarf goal arrived in the closing five minutes when they game was effectivly over.

It has been a great season for Davis who play in Division Three and beat Three Division Two sides – Cuala, Ballinteer St John’s and Clontarf on their way to winning the title.

“I’m thrilled for all the players, all the hard work has paid,” said Thomas Davis mentor Brendan Horan who runs the teams with Stephen Stewart, John Kinsella and Davy Keogh.

“This group of players started in the acedemy eight or nine years ago and there have been plenty of people involved with the teams.
