Development plans to develop the Horse and Jockey pub site withdrawn by architects

THE owners of the Horse and Jockey pub in Inchicore, have withdrawn plans to develop the site – weeks after a fire gutted the building. It is the second time in ten years a fire broke out at the premises.

Paddy and Ann McManus, who bought the site in 1998, lodged plans in January with Dublin City Council, seeking the demolition of the Horse and Jockey and adjacent building (109 and 111 Emmet Road).

The McManus’s wanted to construct a three-storey mixed-use development comprising accommodation for 40 students.

In 2014, the McManus’s failed in their attempt to get planning permission to demolish and refurbish the building, and construct a mixed-use development over five storeys with accommodation for 44 students.

Gardaí are investigating a recent fire at the former Horse and Jockey pub, which occurred on February 28.

Nobody was injured during the Dublin Fire Brigade operation, which continued for a number of hours.
In May 2005, 11 people were left homeless following a fire that destroyed the former Horse and Jockey building.

Authorities believe the blaze started in an unoccupied flat above the pub – destroying apartments and leaving all of the occupants homeless.

On March 10, O’Dwyer Associates Architects, on behalf of the McManus’s, submitted a letter to Dublin City Council planning department, declaring a wish to withdraw the application.
