Drug-dealing locations signalled
By Echo Reporter
THE re-emergence of runners hanging on overhead cables advertises potential drug-dealing locations, according to a local councillor.
Sinn Féin councillor Ray McHugh says the problem has started to “crop up again” in Drimnagh in recent weeks.
The phenonemon has occured in South Dublin County areas in the past, and also in countries such as Canada, USA, England and Australia.
It is an issue that is considered to be either an urban myth, a clear indication of drug-dealing, or kids simply messing about.
Cllr McHugh put forward a motion at the Dublin South Central ACM last week, asking for the council to remove all runners from overhead cables, “so as not to facilitate or identify where the sale of illegal drugs are in an area.”
“This was a huge issue when I was on the council before in 2008,” said Cllr McHugh.
“At the time I put forward a motion and it was addressed by he council. I’ve noticed it in the area where I live, on Comeragh Road and Galtymore Road. They seem to be appearing as a form of advertising.”
Members at the Dublin South Central ACM agreed with Cllr McHugh’s motion – which calls for the removal of all runners on overhead cable in the Drimnagh area.
