Keith ButlerGrab your copy of this week’s Echo Newspaper for all the latest on our Special Olympians who arrived back to Dublin Airport on Tuesday to a mass celebration. Among the local medal winners were Kilnamanagh’s Gary McEnroe, who took bronze in the 25m backstroke, Limekiln’s Keith Butler (pictured) who claimed gold in the 800m freestyle, and Rathfarnham’s Elizabeth Mair who returned with two gold equestrian medals.

Elsewhere, there is news of a remarkable week for local swimmers at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi, where Tallaght Swimming Club’s Antoinette Neamt won silver and bronze medals and Templeogue Swimming Club’s Ellen Walshe claimed sliver. Meanwhile, Fortunestown Swimming Club’s Aidan Hickey put in a remarkable performance recently to register the fastest ever time in the 25km Lough Erne swim, and we hear from him.

We also speak to Shamrock Rovers’ Under 17 Head Coach Graham Gartland ahead of the inaugural Airtricity Under 17 League, which starts this coming weekend, and we hear from St Pat’s goalkeeper Brendan Clarke about the crunch league tie with Rovers in Tallaght on Friday evening. With the two teams locked on the same points tally in third place in the Airtricity League table, a win for either side would hand them a huge advantage heading into the business end of the season.

News of DSD Athletics’ win in the National League Premier Division and the launch of the first AMM Ireland International Karate Championships also feature among plenty of other news, and as always, if we have missed anything this week then do not hesitate to contact us. You can also subscribe to The Echo Newspaper online so you can read all the latest news and sport from your area on your mobile, tablet or pc.
