Féile Cheol Áras Chrónáin big hit with the community

AN INTIMATE live music festival in the grounds of Áras Chrónáin is going down a real treat with the surrounding community ahead of its final showstopping weekend, reports Hayden Moore.

Seó Beo – Féile Cheol Áras Chrónáin launched last weekend with performances from the Donal Kirk Band, Stockton’s Wing and Shaskeen and is all set for a blockbuster few days.

Opening with renowned singer-songwriter Mundy on Friday night, the second weekend of Seó Beo will wrap up with performances from traditional musicians The Dixie Micks and The Jeremiahs.

Manager of Áras Chrónáin and organiser of Seó Beo, Brian Ó Gaibhín, is feeling upbeat after a triumphant opening weekend.

“It’s been absolutely amazing,” Brian told The Echo, ahead of Seó Beo’s second weekend, June 24-26.

“We’re so taken aback by the response to the festival. People are going around and they’re seeing the signs for it thinking ‘oh what’s this?’ and making their way in, having a really great time.

“It’s not just the main concerts either.

“So people will head to the concert and then when that wraps up around half eight, people make their way into Áras Chrónáin for a night of trad music – because we have trad on there every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

“The place has been absolutely swinging, and people have been so complimentary.”

Áras Chrónáin has presented the very best of the Irish musicians under a stretch tent in the garden of the popular premises.

As part of a special offer to celebrate Muintir Chrónáin’s 50th anniversary, the group is offering a special on the tickets to see Mundy on Friday.

The festivities would not have been possible without the supports made available through the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme.

“We work in partnership with everybody here at Áras Chrónáin,” Ó Gaibhín says.

“We’re so grateful and thankful for the local Live Performance Scheme and South Dublin County Council for supporting us, because it has been a huge success for us.

“The community really appreciates it as well because they don’t have to travel far for good live music and events – it’s only around the corner.

“We have a stretch tent out on the green here at Áras Chrónáin and it really is lovely to see it all. We’re hoping to make this an annual thing if we can.”
