First camogie title for Holy Family

First camogie title for Holy Family

HOLY FAMILY lifted their first ever camogie title on Friday after scraping past Gaelcholáiste Reachrann to land the Senior ‘C’ Camogie Shield with a 4-1 to 1-9 victory in Peregrines GAA Club.

Although, when the final whistle was blown, a cloud of confusion had both sets of players believing they had won the clash until referee Mick O’Flaherty confirmed that the Rathcoole girls had pipped their opponents by a point.

Bronagh O’Mahony was gifted a goal early on when her free from the middle of the park dropped on top of their Reachrann goalkeeper and bobble over the line.

Breanne Flood doubled their lead when she fired to the net and tacked on a point afterwards to make it 2-1 to 0-1 by the interval.

But nothing could have prepared Holy Family for what was to come, as Reachrann went from six points down to two-points up heading towards the final whistle.

Wing-forward Ava Kenny, having just netted moments before, scored a second goal from close range to edge her side a point ahead.

Yet, while having their fair share of chances to level it, the Donaghmede girls could not find the net as Rathcoole shotstopper Lauren Healy pulled off a series of outstanding saves.

Having just missed two back-to-back frees, Holy Family had still done just enough to be crowned champions.
