Four teachers undergo head shave to support pupils Caiden and Keilan

THERE was a big turnout amid welcome sunshine at a Ballyfermot school this week, at an event which saw teachers undergo a head shave, to support two pupils battling Leukaemia.

Four teachers at Mary Queen of Angels 1 went under the razor to raise funds for the families of Caiden Molloy (6) and Keilan O’Shea (9).

The two young lads are currently in hospital receiving treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL).

However, their school and community has rallied to help them out at this challenging time.

Last week, Ballyfermot United’s charity football match raised around €10,000 in aid of the two young pals. Caiden is a member of the club’s youth academy.

On Tuesday, at the entrance to the school on Gurteen Avenue, a large crowd of parents and pupils (many with their hair dyed in different colours), gathered to voice their support for the teacher’s head shave, accompanied by a festive cacophony of cheering and music.

Local hairdresser Donna Kelly did the honours, as teachers Conor McGrath, James McDonald, Anthony Blair and Liam Murphy received a short back and sides, to much delight from their pupils.

“We just wanted to do something and saw how successful other head shaves were,” said James McDonald, Caiden’s Senior Infant’s teacher.

“It is great to see all the parents here today. We set up a GoFundMe page and the money raised will be split between the two families.”

Young Caiden was able to view the proceedings from his hospital bed via a livestream.

The GoFundMe page had raised over €7,000 by Tuesday morning.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation can do so at GoFundMe.
