ON FRIDAY, February 15, Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club will hold a fundraising table quiz in aid of Elizabeth McNicholas, a Lucan woman who has been struck down by Scoliosis.

The quiz kicks off at 8.30pm and a table of four is €40.

Elizabeth (29) is a former Camogie star who has been confined to bed for the last four years.

10 years ago, Elizabeth woke up one day and couldn’t move or stand.

She bravely studied through her pain and sat her Leaving Certificate on an overwhelming amount of medication.

She received enough points to study her chosen course.

She deferred for two years and then managed to return to college for two years but again had to leave.

Left without any option, since they are unable to receive appropriate care in Ireland, the family then travelled to Istanbul, Turkey, to meet world renowned Spinal Surgeon Prof. Dr.Alanay.

Elizabeth underwent a number of operations and spent three months in hospital, post-operation with her mother and her sister Una.

The family raised funds for the operations through the Elizabeth McNicholas Trust.

She lives in the family home in Esker Park, Lucan.

Her dad, John, is on the Dublin County Board and her brother, Sean, is a hurling referee in Dublin.

Elizabeth has brain and spinal injuries including scoliosis and kyphosis.

She is fighting hard to lead a normal life and to continue her teaching studies in Sligo.

The fundraiser at Lucan Sarsfields at their 12th Lock Club house promises to be a great evening.

The Club are asking members to spread the word about the event to families, friends and colleagues. For further information you can phone 0872331983 or 0872189960.
