Gardai confirm further human remains found as mountain search continues

Gardai have this afternoon confirmed that remains found near where a human torso was discovered on Saturday evening in the Wicklow Mountains are also human.

The discovery comes as the State Pathologist carries out a post-mortem to determine if both sets of remains are from the same person.

Reports suggest the remains are that of a man, possibly in his 20s, and that they were dumped in the area of Military Road recently.

In a statement issued by Gardai this lunchtime, a spokesperson said: “Gardai investigating the discovery of human remains can now confirm that further human remains have been discovered in an area known as Glenmacnass Waterfall, Co Wicklow.

“The remains were discovered yesterday (Sunday) and the two scenes are now being preserved for a Garda Forensic Examination.

“Investigating Gardai are appealing to members of the public who were in the general area of Military Rd / Laragh County Wicklow in the recent past and who may have seen anything suspicious or unusual to contact the incident room at Bray Garda Station on 01-666 5300, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.”
