THE Green Party has co-opted Suzanne McEneaney to fill the South Dublin County Council seat that was vacated by Clare O’Byrne when she resigned last March.

This is the second time that the seat, representing the Firhouse-Bohernabreena ward, has been co-opted, as Ms O’Byrne was co-opted following the election of Francis Noel Duffy to the Dáil last year.

Ms O’Byrne resigned on International Women’s Day, March 8, stating a lack of maternity leave as the main reason for her departure.

This week, the Green Party announced that Suzanne McEneaney will be their new councillor for Firhouse-Bohernabreena.

Cllr McEneaney is a special educational needs teacher and a mother-of-two. She has been a Green Party member for over 20 years.

She grew up in Belfast in the 70s and 80s, and according to her profile on the Green Party website, this experience gave Cllr McEneaney “a deep conviction that we have to work together and that compromise is necessary for progress”.

The main priorities for Cllr McEneaney are affordable housing, protecting biodiversity, reducing dumping and having “efficient and affordable waste collection services”, and developing “efficient” public transport links.
