Greenhills College students set up their own Credit Union

UNDER the guidance and support of Greenhills and District Credit Union and their Youth Liaison Officer Marion King, the 5th year students in the Greenhills College set up their very own School Credit Union recently.

This School Credit Union will be run by the Committee Members, made up from the boys in the Greenhills College and will be operating independently.

The benefit of this School Credit Union is that it allows students who have been members in the primary school saving scheme to continue to save on a regular basis within their school.

It also affords those students who are not members of a Credit Union the opportunity to join the College Credit Union and get involved.

The aim of the School Credit Union is to get the pupils involved at every stage.

With this said the pupils on the Committees had to prepare their CV, attend an interview for a variety of positions on the Committee (Manager, Secretary, Tellers and Marketing) and once appointed received training in Anti-Money Laundering and Data Protection.

Valuable life experience

Marion King said: “It is great to see so many students wanting to get involved in the running and operations of the Credit Union in their schools. It also teaches students how to be financial responsible and it is valuable life experience.”

As part of the celebrations our very own mascot GLAS was in attendance.

GLAS stands for Great Loans And Service and for our junior members it stands for Glas Loves All Savers.

GLAS helps us connect with our members and Community in a fun way, but stands for the principles that we pride ourselves on i.e. strength in service, loyalty to our members and pride in our involvement in the community.

New members are always welcome to join.
