Group is now the first AAI recognised running club in Ballyfermot area
CHERRY Orchard Running Club are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year and encourage people to sign up for a special birthday race in June.
The club are hosting 5k and 10k chip timed runs on the morning of Saturday, June 10, at Cherry Orchard Park. Kenneth O’Driscoll, community coach for the Cherry Orchard area, started the club in 2013 to promote positive activities in the community.
Kenneth encouraged friends and family to get out with him for a run in the community, and soon a little crew was formed and they spent many a weekend running through the Phoenix Park.
Kenneth’s crew grew larger and larger and over time he linked in with Familibase to become an official AAI recognised running club, the first in Ballyfermot.
Since then, the club have grown to have over 200 registered members, both adults and kids.
The club participate in races all over Ireland, and their distinctive orange tops were visible for the first time at the recent Dublin City Marathon when a group of 60 members took part.
Registration for the 5k/10k runs can be done HERE.
