GS Eiscir Riada weather storm

GAELSCOIL Eiscir Riada’s boys were celebrating in Croke Park on Tuesday after they landed the Corn Ó Donnchu following their 3-7 to 2-3 triumph over Our Lady’s BNS.

The Lucan side took the lead early on with points from Shane Céitinn, Ross Campion and a big effort from the sideline by Oisín Ó Dochartaigh.

Another point from full forward Ross Campion and a goal from corner forward Adam Mac Con Carraige added to their tally.

Our Lady’s rallied with two points, one fine effort from a 45, but Eiscir Riada responded through Ross Campion and Luca Ó Fathaigh who struck for goals while a great individual point from Luca Ó Fathaigh made it 3-5 to 0-2.

Yet Our Lady’s refused to throw in the towel and altered their game plan, throwing everything at their opponents in the second half.

Indeed so heavy was the pressure from Our Lady’s in the second half that the Lucan side was forced to defend for most of this period, scoring only two points.

Yet incredible displays from David Ó hAodha, captain Séimí Mac Gabhann and Eoin Mac Con Éidigh saw Eiscir Riada home.

The win has now extended the school’s great record in Croke Park with their fifth win from as many appearances at GAA Headquarters.

They first reached a shield final with the boys in 2012/2013 in football and hurling winning both before their girls team followed suit in the cup with winning displays in 2013/2014 and 2014/2015.
