“If I can do it, anyone can” Saggart author overcomes sight challenges to top Amazon Charts
“IF I can get published, even with bad sight that makes reading challenging, I know anybody can,” says Saggart author Tom McAndrew ahead of his talk in Tallaght Library.
From childhood in a Mayo village to a three-book US deal, Tom shows that life’s blurriest moments can inspire something clear and compelling.
Tom’s first book, ‘Doocey Half-Sees Whodunnit’, follows witty Irish detective Shamie Doocey as he battles failing sight while investigating the disappearance of an uptight crime writer’s wife.
Sight has “always fascinated” Tom, and his own sight issues give him an authentic perspective.
Tom’s talk will be followed by a Q&A. He thanks Michelle Leamy and Tallaght Library staff for organising the event.
“Everybody has been so supportive,” he beams. The book has already reached number one on Amazon.
Readers praise the book’s humour and say Shamie Doocey brings “newness” and “freshness” to detective fiction.
They call it “something different from what’s out there” in crime writing.
Splash, a US magazine with millions of global readers, lists ‘Doocey Half-Sees Whodunnit’ as its recommended crime fiction buy for Father’s Day.
It describes the book as “packed with twists, humour, and memorable characters that will keep readers guessing until the very end”.
Tom will discuss his path to publication on June 24 at 6:30pm; tickets are available on Eventbrite.
