Library plays host to vibrant exhibition from five artists
“IT’S been so wonderful to have our family, friends, and fellow artists come and enjoy our art collectively,” remarks exhibitor Helen Dorgan.
Ballyroan Library played host to a vibrant exhibition opening last Thursday, June 11, as five local artists unveiled their latest collective showcase to an audience of over 100 guests.
The exhibition, featuring the works of Ger Hughes, Anna Lyons, Sandy Williamson, Lisa Simpson, and Helen Dorgan, will run until June 27 and marks another milestone in a creative partnership that has been three years in the making.
The group’s origins trace back to The Eden Art Studio in Rathfarnham, run by local artist and tutor Morgan Gibbs, where all five first crossed paths as students.
It was fellow exhibitor Lisa Simpson who first sparked the collaborative spirit, putting out a call to fellow artists to join her in showing their work at the People’s Art exhibition in St Stephen’s Green.
Though the lineup shifted over time, with some artists departing and new talent joining, the core group has now been exhibiting together for three consecutive years.
This year’s show marks an expansion of a successful formula. Following Ger Hughes and Sandy Williamson’s well-received two-person exhibition last year, three more artists came on board, bringing the group to its current five-strong lineup.
Each bringing a unique viewpoint and different source of inspiration, what is perhaps most striking is how cohesively their works sit alongside one another.
Ger Hughes, organiser, also extended his thanks to the staff at Ballyroan Library, singling out team member Maria for her considerable help in bringing the event together.
The exhibition remains open to the public and runs until Saturday, June 27. The library will also host an open ‘Meet the Artist’ afternoon from 2-5pm on Thursday the 25th ahead of the exhibitions’ close.
