Clondalkin’s Aidan Harris Igiehon is poised to begin a new chapter in his basketball career following a move to Grand Canyon University

Clondalkin native Igiehon, who measures six-foot-10, has spent two years with the University of Louisville playing in front of 22,000 fans at the KFC Yum! Centre.

Unfortunately for the 20-year-old, he was only afforded that opportunity 18 times as he battled to stay fit.

When he did feature  he averaged 1.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 5.7 minutes across his two years.

He netted a career-high five points last November against Evansville after getting a run of games under his belt.

However, Igiehon’s final game for the Cardinals came in December against Wisconsin, with a groin injury and illness keeping him on the sidelines since.

Frustrated with how Igiehon’s time in Louisville went, his coach Chris Mack spoke about how he did not know if there has “ever been two, three weeks in a row where Aidan was able to practice”.

“It was just one thing after another”, he said in a press conference.

On March 15, Igiehon entered the NCAA Transfer Portal and last Saturday, he revealed on social media that he was bound for Phoenix.

“To the city of Louisville, thank you for accepting some kid from Ireland with open arms,” he said on Twitter, alongside a picture of him wearing a GCU jersey.

“You will forever be in my heart.”

Dublin Lions coach Rob White believes Igiehon can make a success of his latest move  , telling The Echo “I definitely think it’s a good move for Aidan.

“His chance of playing more is much higher in Grand Canyon because Louisville is top of the top and it’s just so competitive.

“He just needs to play more to show his skills and athleticism. He just needs to get more minutes and if he gets the opportunity to play he’ll definitely shine” he insisted.
