Jobs on route to Citywest as Xilinx invests €34m in Irish operations

US multinational technology company Xilinx today announced a major investment of €34 million in research and development at its EMEA headquarters in Citywest and Cork.

The tech giants already employ 350 people at its EMEA headquarters in Citywest, but will recruit 100 new staff for their expansion in Dublin and Cork to cater for the expansion of its operation in Ireland.

The development was formally announced in Citywest this morning by Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald and Kevin Cooney, Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer and Managing Director of EMEA, Xilinx Inc.

The new investment is supported by the Irish government through IDA Ireland.

Tánaiste Fitzgerald said the Xilinx investment “is a great vote of confidence in Ireland and in particular, in the attractive eco-system we have created for companies in the ICT sector.”

Kevin Cooney, Senior Vice President, Xilinx, said: “Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will have a profound impact across a wide range of applications that impact society as a whole.

Xilinx is uniquely positioned to accelerate the proliferation of these applications from edge to cloud.

“This investment by Xilinx in Ireland will fuel advanced product development and research that will enable ever more intelligent and efficient AI development and deployment.”
