Jude’s battle to minor crown

ST JUDE’S have won the Division 3 Minor Camogie Championship after a victory against Whitehall Colmcille recently at St Peregrine’s GAA Club with the final score reading 2-06 to 0-02.

In a game held in extremely tough conditions, it was Jude’s who prevailed on the day showing more will and skill than their northside opponents.

Jude’s made the best of the conditions in the first half and despite the opposition having the benefit of the wind, Jude’s ruled throughout, keeping their foes scoreless and heading into halftime with a six point lead.

They would go on to score two further goals in the second half of the game courtesy of Orla Keogh and Sarah McShane which was more than enough to seal the deal.

It was a solid performance from the side who showed a real dogged and determined spirit throughout the game battling through relentless wind and torrential rain.

The positive attitude of the team can be witnessed when speaking to their coach Liam Cloake who describes them as ‘a joy to train’.

“They are probably the nicest team I’ve ever coached in my entire life.

‘They are a great bunch. We have a number of girls who stood up and took leadership roles.

‘The commitment from the girls all year has been outstanding. I’ve never had another team like them.”

‘After a mixed league campaign, Cloake described the goals throughout the year and how it all built towards winning the championship.

“The league wasn’t overly important, we weren’t worried about it. The league was about getting the team together and trying to get a style of play.

‘To get them all to understand how we want them to play. Organising training to understand that it’s not about hitting the ball as hard as you can it’s about finding somebody so even in the lashing rain and freezing cold they were still able to find members of their own team.

‘It was very difficult conditions but they still tried to play their brand of camogie which was great to see.”
