Kevin named Intel Safety Star

SOUTH Dublin native Kevin Reilly has been named as Intel Safety Star, reports Lauren Castleman.

Intel, an advanced manufacturing company, has just announced several Safety Stars from their sites around the world to coincide with World Day for Safety and Health at Work.

Two workers out of 4,500 were recognised from the Leixlip campus, including Kevin Reilly.

Reilly, who lives in Terenure, works in the etch module in Fab 24, the high-volume semiconductor manufacturing facility in Leixlip.

The facility often works with turbo pumps, which would arrive in a crate, be removed by an external vendor, get lifted into place on the tool, and then follows the same process in reverse.

In order to prevent injury, Reilly came up with a new solution: the use of a toe.

The toe comes to the passthrough area, and the turbo pump is subsequently pushed onto a specially designed trolley and moved to the tool using a powered tug. Reilly saw the entire project through, from design to implementation.

This initiative is one of many innovations that Reilly has carried out in preparation for transferring technology from one Intel site to another.

Intel commended Reilly for his work, praising his “passion, innovation, teamwork, and commitment to a strong safety culture”.
