Limekiln scoop fifth National title this year

LIMEKILN Rounders Club collected no less than their fifth All-Ireland title of this season alone after their Senior Mixed team beat Ballon from Carlow in the recent national decider in Newbridge.

Inspired by the ever present Eddie Healy, the team took hold of this match from the fifth innings and ran out comfortable 24-12 winners.

It was nip and tuck in the early stages with only one run separating the sides until Limekiln took off and secured the Senior Mixed crown for the 11th time in the club’s history.

Also involved in the Senior Men’s All-Ireland Final that same day, Limekiln turned in a very gritty performance but were eventually beaten 24-16 by Laois outfit The Heath.

The Dubliners were a man short heading into the game, but were actually leading 11-8 at one point.

Yet once their opponents began to exploit the gap that was the consequence of their numerical inferiority, they were not able to keep pace, despite another great performance from Healy.

It marked their fifth runner-up finish in All-Ireland competition this year.

“We won seven All-Ireland titles last year, but could not match that this season” said Limekiln’s Chris Hughes.

“But to win five titles this year was great and we’re very pleased with that” he added.
Another productive return this year has seen Limekiln take their national title tally to a massive 45 since 1996.

The club will now be turning its attention to its Challenge Cup and Fun Day in Tymon Park on Sunday, September 27.
