Tallaght Stadium’s first ever ice rink is opening next week, with the 600sq meter rink part of South Dublin County Council’s Tourism Strategy.

Called South Dublin on Ice, locals of all ages will be able to skate their way to Christmas, with the rink opening from Friday, November 17, to Sunday, January 14.

There’s also a whole generation of Tallaght residents who travelled as teenagers in the eighties and nineties to the ice rink in Dolphin’s Barn, so there’s sure to be some grown-ups looking forward to dusting off their moves.

The venture is being run by the council in partnership with Profile Music Group Ltd and together they promise “a fantastic skating experience for the festive season at Tallaght Stadium’s first ever ice rink”.

There will also be lots of activities for the whole family to enjoy on and around the ice rink.

The council said: “This event is part of South Dublin County Council’s Tourism Strategy, which aims to create a range of recreational and leisure attractions for local communities and visitors to our County as part of our Dublin’s Outdoors Initiative.

“The Ice rink is approximately 600sq meters and you will be able to enjoy your skating experience no matter what the weather has to offer as the ice rink will be fully covered.”

Each session will last 50 minutes and people are advised to arrive at least 20 minutes before their session starts.
