Lucan Festival – Meet ‘Patrick Sarsfield’ and hear his story

LUCAN Festival 2022, which takes place from September 9- 11, will publish a full list of events later this week.

One group who will be involved is the Society for Old Lucan (SOL).

The heritage group invites residents to the Lucan Demense open day on Saturday September 10, to visit their stand at the medieval church.

At the stand they will have information leaflets, and the SOL 2023 calendar will be on sale – a limited print run that would make a handy Christmas present.

SOL will have a self-guiding numbered walk throughout the demesne for people to follow, with lots of fascinating historical information on the church, who were the people buried there, who used to live in Lucan House, the story behind the tunnel under the road, what the bathhouse was used for, recent discoveries, and much more.

At the event, you can meet ‘Patrick Sarsfield’ and ‘Elizabeth Vesey’ walking around.

Both lived in Lucan House in the 17th and 18th century, and can tell you a few stories from the time period.

On Sunday, September 11, SOL will have self-guiding information stands set up in the medieval graveyard to the rear of O’Neill’s pub and will be on hand to answer questions.

Jonathan Cully will have his exhibition on Lucan’s military set up in the graveyard for people to view.
