Lucan masters deliver on the National stage

LUCAN Harriers AC recorded their fair share of success at the Irish Life Health Masters Indoors Championships at AIT in Athlone last weekend.

The club’s Ladies Relay team of Claire Johnston, Carol Kearney, Laura McAteer and Annette Durkan struck gold.

In the W50 400m Kearney again went top of the podium in a season’s best time while Breda Smyth took home silver after a great performance in the W45 1500m.

Durkan earned the same colour in both W40 60m and 200m, carding a PB in the latter, while bronze went the way of Kathleen Trunk in W40 1500m, Kearney in W50 200m (season’s best) and Ben Prenter in both Shot Putt and Weight for Distance before Clare Johnston ran two PBs in the W35 60m and 200m sprints.

These superb perform-ances on the national stage followed hot on the heels of the club’s big haul in the Leinster Indoor Champion-ships in Abbottstown.

There were gold medals for Durkan in W40 60m and 200m, Kearney in W50 400m, Prenter in M45 Shot Putt and Weight for Distance as well as the Masters 4x200m ladies relay team.

Johnston was runner-up in the W35 200m as were Kathleen Trunk in W40 1500m and 4x400m Masters Ladies relay team of Kearney, McAteer, Smyth and Trunk.

Bronze medals were won by Kearney in the W50 200m, Smyth in the W45 800m and Eoghan Shanley in Senior 400m.
