Two from two for Dublin Lions

DUBLIN Lions made it two from two in last weekend’s Dublin Cup Final after both their Under 18s and 13s emerged triumphant from their respective title games in the Oblate Hall.

The former completed a tremendous season with a 38-33 point victory over Liffey Celtics that saw them add the Dublin Cup to the county league title they had secured earlier in the season.

Dublin Lions Under 18s

Dublin Lions Under 18s beat Liffey Celtics in their cup decider.

Still they were made to work for it by their Leixlip/Lucan rivals who had led right the way through until four minutes from the end.

Indeed Liffey, who had lost to Lions in the league, were that bit quicker out of the blocks and led by three at the halftime break.

Yet this Lions team, who had also reached the National Cup semi finals where they lost out to eventual winners Moycullen, never let up as Jack Maguire and Tiernan Howe served up the bulk of their scores while forward Adam Mulally was very effective under the boards.

Meanwhile Lions’ Under 13s produced a very impressive performance to see off league leaders Templeogue 52-29 in their Cup showdown.

The Clondalkin side were seven points up by the close of the first quarter and the effective partnership of David Olokan and Calum Bruce went a long way to seeing them extand that advantage to 11 by the halftime break.

Micah Kangali made his presence felt particualrly in the early stages while Michael O’Connor also performed well.

It was a great victory for this Lions team against a Templeogue outfit that is on the verge of clinching the Dublin League title and had beaten them by four points earlier in the season.

There was even more for Lions to celebrate after their Under 12s beat Oblates to secure the Dublin League title.
