Lucan runners enjoy strong start to Meet and Train CC Series

THERE were some gritty performances by Lucan Harriers members at the first race in the annual Meet & Train Cross Country Series organised by Dunboyne Athletic Club.

Some 112 runners took part with Breda Smyth leading the Lucan ladies home, followed by Trisha Gough and Bernie Stapleton.

The club had six first-time cross country runners and they all enjoyed good runs, Celine Murphy and Ceara Kerrigan, and in particular the club’s four fit4life girls who took part in their first ever race, Maggie Russell, Lorraine Mulally, Aideen McCormack and Geraldine Coogan.

Next up for the runners is a trip to Bushy Park on December 18.

On another note Lucan was well represented by their Girls Under 12 team at the National Cross Country Champ-ionships in Abbotstown on Sunday.

They came home in 12th place with two girls finishing in the top 50, Eve Marie Noctor (31st) and Maggie Jez (49th), while Millie Hughes and Hannah Moriarty also performed well.

What’s more, Noctor’s time also counted as one of the runs that helped earn second place for the Dublin team in the County Team and Province contest.
