ANOTHER Féile title has gone the way of Lucan Sarsfields after their Under 14 footballers secured the Division Two crown in Parnell Park on Sunday.

Having enjoyed success in camogie and ladies football Féile finals already this year, the club saw their boys football team go all the way in their competition.

The Lucan side had to dig deep for their win as they overcame a strong St Sylvester’s team 1-12 to 1-5 in what was their third meeting between league and Féile competitions in a week.

This final hung right in the balance until Jake Rooney’s goal on 39 minutes put some daylight between the teams.

Sarsfields started the final well with two early points from Colm Walsh before Sylvester’s replied to pull onto level terms.

Oisin Ryan and Charlie Keher both kicked two points apiece but Sylvester’s were unlucky not to pull a goal back when they hit the crossbar.

Keeper Alec Birnie came to the rescue for Sarsfields when he pulled off a fine save while Ryan had the final say when he kicked a score to move them 0-7 to 0-3 in front at half time.

Lucan started the second half strongly with Colm Walsh and Sean Casey registering points before Sylvester’s came back with a score.

Keeper Birnie made another great save for Lucan with only a point separting the teams with nine minutes remaining.

Colm Walsh scored a point before Rooney’s crucial goal arrived after a powerful and good link play with substitute Paul Tuite saw the talented forward find the net.

Relief for Lucan as another score from Oisin Ryan saw the 12th Lock side run out seven-point winners.
Sarsfields won all their group games and beat Naomh Olaf in the semi finals.
