Adams, aged 44, with an address at Brookview Drive, Tallaght, is charged with producing a hatchet at the above address on Jauary 10, 2016.

Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution by certificate, Sergeant Eithne Madden told Judge Bridget Reilly that the DPP had directed summary disposal.

Judge Reilly asked what was alleged.

Sgt Madden said it will be alleged that on January 10 last, the gardaí responded to a domestic incident at an address at Brookview Drive in Tallaght.

She said it will be alleged that the gardaí could hear Adams from inside his house threatening to “cut up” two women.

Sgt Madden said it will be alleged Adams then came out of the house brandishing a hatchet.

She said the injured parties had refused to cooperate with the gardaí at the scene.

Judge Reilly told Adams’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy: “Somebody brandishing an axe – this is a serious matter.”

She said she was not satisified with the facts and would need to hear the full facts before considering jurisdiction.

She remanded the defendant on continuing bail to a date in September to consider jurisdiction.
