Man cleared in Citywest assault case rearrested over deportation order
A man who had charges dropped today that related to an alleged sexual assault a 10-year-old girl in Citywest, which led to riots, has been rearrested on foot of a deportation order.
The 27-year-old man was rearrested after his release from Midlands Prison earlier on Friday after the charges were dropped, and is now in custody again at the prison.
He had appeared before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on Friday morning via video link from prison after he was arrested and charged last year in connection with two alleged incidents at Garter’s Lane and another nearby location in the area in October 2025.
The State stated that it was not proceeding with the two counts of sexual assault charges, and the man was released from custody, and subsequently rearrested.
A Garda statement reads: “A man in his 20s was arrested today by Gardaí from the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) on foot of a deportation order.
“The arrest took place in the Midlands area and the individual is currently in custody. No additional information is available at this time.”
