STEALING a print cartridge landed a man before Blanchardstown District Court.

Sergeant Maria Flanagan told the court that on November 29 last, the gardai received a call to go to Tesco in Lucan where a male had been stopped after he attempted to steal a print cartridge. She said the print cartridge was damaged and could not be resold.

Sgt Flanagan said Duca had no previous convictions.

Duca’s solicitor, Matthew Kenny, said his client could not explain his actions and what he did was out of character.

Judge McHugh asked if this was the sort of case where the defendant had mistakenly taken the item.

Mr Kenny said it wasn’t the case and added that his client was putting his hands up.

He said Duca works as an agency worker and earns €400 per week. He asked if the Judge would consider leaving Duca without a conviction.

Judge McHugh said he would strike out the case if Duca pays €250 to the Blanchardstown Hospice.

He remanded Duca on continuing bail for five weeks for payment of the donation.
