BALLYBODEN ST ENDA’S senior hurling manager Joe Fortune has acknowledged that his side have a mountain of work to do after their 1-13 to 0-6 win over St Vincent’s in the Adult Hurling League Division One opener.

He told The Echo: “It’s a strange one, obviously I’m delighted with the win and I was saying last week about the hunger and whether or not it was there. Well now we know that the hunger and the application is definitely there.

“The conditions had a massive effect on the game. Don’t get me wrong, to win by 10 points against St Vincent’s is great, but from watching the game back, it’s very clear that we have a lot of work to do.

“There are no illusions here either, we’re only back training a few weeks and it’s the first game back, a lot of teams wouldn’t have even started hurling yet.

“We’ve been doing a lot of physical training, we haven’t done much hurling. At the minute we’re in the middle of a lot of heavy physical work and championship is only 7/8 weeks away, so we have a lot of work to do between now and then.”

Lively forward Conor Dooley contributed nine points to Boden’s tally after the break in their dominant victory over the Marino men on Sunday.

Shane Durkin excelled in defence while James Roche profited from some excellent build up play involving Paul Doherty when he fired to the net to make it 1-3 to 0-0 by the half-time whistle.

After the interval, Conor Burke provided some much-needed relief for Vinnies with a point before they added three more to the scoresheet with Ronan Fallon splitting the posts.

Dublin star Niall McMorrow returned to club action in style with a point for the Firhouse Road men while Niall Ryan and Sean McDonnell closed out the clash with a handful of scores.

Next up for the reigning league champions is the short trip to near neighbours Ballinteer St John’s on March 10.

Meanwhile, the recent Senior Hurling Championship draw has seen Boden pitched against Lucan Sarsfields, Setanta and Whitehall Colmcille, with their first championship game on April 7.
