National Heritage Week will be centre stage in community

NATIONAL Heritage Week is taking place in August, with everyone invited to get involved.

Running from August 13 to 21, National Heritage Week 2022 celebrates the full return of in-person events.

The festival also welcomes back digital heritage projects, which have been popular over the past two years.

Organised by the Heritage Council, the week has become one of Ireland’s largest cultural events, with everyone encouraged to get involved.

This year, National Heritage Week is all about sustainability, with information and support available for those who are organising an event or project in their community.

The Heritage Council has called on newcomers, enthusiasts, and experts of all ages to focus on sustainable heritage and biodiversity when registering in-person events and digital projects for inclusion in National Heritage Week.

An in-person event may consist of walking tours, lectures, film screenings, exhibitions, craft workshops or other interactive activities.

Digital project formats may vary from online talks or exhibitions, videos, podcasts, presentations or blogs or a dedicated website.

In-person events and digital projects can be submitted through heritageweek.

To date, for example, the Friends of the Camac group has organised an hour’s walk and talk along the Camac as it flows through Clondalkin.

Those interested are invited to meet outside the Clondalkin Civic Centre at 3pm on Sunday, August 21.

A list of local and national events organised to date are available on the Heritage Week website, which can be searched by local area.

For further information or to submit an event, visit heritageweek.
