New counselling centre for adults and children

THE official opening of a new counselling centre for adults and children, called The Kabin, was held in the Killinarden Family Resource Centre in Tallaght last Friday, November 4.

The Kabin, which is based in the resource centre, provides an expanded counselling service and a dedicated space for the service.

A spokesperson for the family resource centre said: “We provide a confidential counselling service and our waiting lists have always been kept to a minimum.

“However, in the aftermath of Covid, we have seen a huge rise in people looking for counselling and as a result we have struggled to keep our waiting lists down.

“This is where the idea came for us to open a brand-new counselling centre which we named The Kabin, a project which has been two years in the making.

“To be able to provide an expanded service in a dedicated space has been a dream for the management and staff of KFRC for a long time.”

The Kabin boasts a play therapy room solely dedicated to children and teens, and a separate room for adult counselling.

Appointments will be available from 9am to 8pm. Phone Mandy from the Killinarden Family Resource Centre on 01 452 7143 for more information.

The project has been funded by donations and grants from several sources, including the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, Daughters of Charity, The Community Foundation of Ireland (Toy Show Appeal), The National Lottery and South Dublin County Council.

Tallaght West Credit Union, Foróige, Roadstone, Dunnes Stores and Tesco also provided funding support for the development of The Kabin.
