Old Bawn CS sponsored walk raises €620 for Pieta

STAFF and students at Old Bawn Community School took part in a sponsored walk for Pieta House to promote mental health as part of their Amber Flag initiative.

The sponsored walk took place on Friday morning, April 8, as students took on a 3-kilometre route from Old Bawn, through Aylesbury and back through Sean Walsh Park in Tallaght in aid of Pieta House.

The fundraiser raised a total of €620 which will be donated to the suicide prevention charity in the coming weeks.

“The walk was our final fundraiser for us to get the Amber Flag in the school,” said Amber Flag representative at the school, Saoirse Kinsella.

“The Amber Flag represents that your school promotes positive mental health within the staff and the students and it flies outside the school for a year, so you need to do a yearly application.”

As part of their Amber Flag application, the school has held bake sales, a mental health week and wellbeing days to promote positive mental health in the school. They will apply for the Amber Flag before the Easter Holidays.
