FRESH from competing in the Rio Summer Games, Ireland Olympian Fiona Doyle recently paid a visit to Tallaght Swim Team to give a master class to the young swimmers.

Doyle took two sessions to work on skills in the pool and gave a talk to parents and swimmers on Saturday evening.

The energetic and engaging Limerick native spoke to swimmers about her successes and failures over the years and admitted that it was not all plain sailing on the road to Rio.

Over the years she had missed out on qualifying for top meets such as the World Swimming Championships and the London Olympics by milliseconds, which she describes as devastating.

This however did not deter her and her determination finally paid off when she achieved the Olympic A standard time at the World University Games in South Korea in 2015 in a time of 1:07.67, subsequently fulfilling an ambition she harboured since she was just 12 years old.

Tallaght swimmers had the opportunity to learn from the best and improve on their techniques, as well as ask questions of the Olympian.
