On This Day in 1975: Ballyfermot Community Association TV

Recently we’ve shared some real gems courtesy of the RTE Archives, and this week it seems another has been uncovered.

On this day in 1975, RTE’s ‘Seven Days’ programme featured the up and coming Ballyfermot Community Association Television (BCA TV).

Created to highlight local issues, the station was based at the local relay company where people paid for their piped TV during the day.

Once the office closed in the evening, the space was transformed into a local broadcasting studio.

According to the RTE Archive the show provided a mix of local news, sport and entertainment, with content organised by the Television sub-committee of the Ballyfermot Community Association.

Guests on the show featured on the ‘Seven Days’ programme included international rugby player Fergus Slattery, while Tommy Phelan was interviewed in relation to the development of new educational resources in the area.

There was also music from Gerry Doyle and Golden Dawn.

Presented by John Hammond, the station was guided by Mary Farrell who organised the content as the key co-ordinator for the station.
