On This Day in 1975: “The potential of Tallaght is almost endless”

In 1975 Tallaght as we know it today was beginning to take shape due to the massive development of housing estates in the sprawling suburb.

RTE travelled to Tallaght to see for themselves how the farms of the past had been transformed into communities, while they also looked at the importance of adult education in the area.

Speaking to RTE’s John Bowman, the principal of the newly built Tallaght Community School, Padraic Kiernan said: Tallaght has an enormous potential.

He continued: “It is young, it is growing, it can avoid many of the problems that has hit other growing areas that we know of in the past in Dublin.

“It is quite a wonderful place beautifully situated and it would be a pity if we don’t tap that great potential.”
