Paddy Power redundancies after its €10 billion merger with Betfair may impact only minimally on workers at Broomhill base of Dial-a-Bet

THE 200 workers based at Paddy Power’s Dial-a-Bet centre in Tallaght are not excluded from this week’s job losses announcement, reports Mary Dennehy.

However, The Echo has learned that any impact on the Broomhill Road base will be “minimal” – with bookie shops not been hit at all.

This week, Paddy Power informed staff of restructuring plans and the possible loss of up to 300 Dublin jobs, as a result of its €10 billion merger with Betfair in February.

The job losses are primarily focused on positions that are now duplicated due to the merger of the two gambling businesses, with staff losses expected to come from the company’s online business, head office and back office, which include legal, finance, HR, technology, trading and risk.

Paddy Power’s Dial-a-Bet base on Broomhill Road is a stand-alone part of the company, and one which is not duplicated by Betfair.

A Paddy Power insider told The Echo that the Dial-a-Bet centre is not excluded from job losses but any impact will be “minimal”.

Paddy Power intends to offer Irish staff their statutory redundancy entitlement and four weeks’ pay for every year of service.

The group also plans to discuss possible redeployment options for some, but these opportunities are believed to be limited.

Paddy Power’s Irish HQ is based in Clonskeagh, where there are 2,750 staff.
