Parents should warn children of sniffing dangers

PARENTS need to warn their children about the dangers of sniffing gas, according to Cllr Francis Timmons (Ind).

The sight of empty gas canisters is all too common in local communities in the last few years, and shows no sign of stopping.

Nitrous oxide canisters, known as silver or purple bullets, are easily accessible for youths, but highly dangerous.

In the last few years, there has been a stark increase in the numbers of young people inhaling the gas contained within the canisters.

Cllr Timmons said: ‘’These gas canisters are being sniffed around locally a lot lately. They are dangerous and can lead to death just like lighter gas, Tipp-Ex and glue before them.

“I am asking parents to make sure you know what your kids are doing when out and warn them of the huge danger involved for a quick buzz. This is dangerous behaviour , it will be too late when someone dies from this. Gas is dangerous and not for inhaling, this is not fun if it causes medical issues or even death.”
